Suryakumar Yadav’s Journey

Surya Kumar Yadav, often known as Suryakumar Yadav, Born in 14 September 1990, is an Indian international cricketer, represents India in ODI and T20 formats. Hailing from Mumbai, Yadav has made his name with consistent performances and powerful batting style.

In the young ages, he started playing cricket under the coaching of his uncle Vinod Kumar Yadav, and played on the streets of Chembur. His father noticed his penchant for gaming and enrolled him in a cricket camp in the BARC colony in Anushakti Nagar when he was 10.

Suryakumar Yadav mostly played for Parsi Gymkhana Cricket Club in Mumbai, along with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited team, Shivaji Park Gymkhana Club and Dadar Union Club. Yadav is one of the senior and regular members of the Mumbai Ranji team, and briefly captained the Mumbai cricket team in the Ranji Trophy.

Domestic Cricket

Yadav burst onto the scene in 2010 when he debuted for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. Even though he was only 20 years old at the time, he surprised with a score of 73 runs in the first innings.

His performance quickly get attention of IPL. In 2011, Suryakumar Yadav was selected by Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction. Playing alongside some of the biggest names in the sport, allowed him to further hone his skills and establish himself as one of the most accomplished athletes. However, in this time he played just one match and was dismissed without a score.

After spending a few seasons with the Mumbai Indians, Yadav was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. He made his mark in IPL 2015 when he took a 20-ball knock of 46 runs with 5 sixes against his old team, Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens.

After Suryakumar Yadav’s performance, in 2018 IPL auctions, he was bought back by Mumbai Indians. He consistently performed well and was the highest run-getter for many seasons. But unfortunately, he was eliminated from IPL 2022 due to an injury in his left forearm.

He mark his back in IPL 2023 with his maiden IPL century against Gujarat Titans on 12th May, ended up being one of the most valuable players in IPL 2023.

International career

He received a call-up to the India national cricket team for 2021 T20 series in 5 matches against England. He made a remarkable on his international debut with an impressive 31 runs off just 20 balls. Even though he only had few opportunities, he still made a strong impact through his performances, proving that the international arena is truly where he belongs.

Thank to his impressive performance, Suryakumar’s golden year continued as he was selected for the T20 World Cup later that year. His inclusion in the Indian team is a testament to the selection committee’s confidence in his abilities. Although the tournament did not go as planned for India, Suryakumar Yadav’s contributions in the batting were commendable.

In T20I 2023, Suryakumar scored the second fastest century by an Indian batter, broke KL Rahul‘s record of second fastest T20I century. Being ranked as ICC No.1 T20 batsman and awarded the ICC T20I Player of the Year 2022.

In August 2023, Yadav was again selected for the West Indies tour of India in the ODIs and was also selected as the vice-captain for the Indian Cricket Team in the T20Is. In the 3rd T20i, Suryakumar Yadav top-scored 83 runs in 44 balls and won the series in a must-win match.

After India lost in the 2023 World Cup final, Surya became the interim captain of the T20I series against Australia.
