Puneri Paltan: A Founding Member of the PKL

Puneri Paltan holds an important place in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) as one of the 8 founding members of the League and contributed to the growth of professional Kabaddi in India.

Since the tournament first started in 2014, Puneri Paltan has been an integral part of the tournament, showing strength and leaving a lasting impact on the Kabaddi scene. Over the years, they have faced formidable opponents like Bengal Warriors, Telugu Titans and Dabang Delhi KC, etc. Despite this, they still stood tall and made it to the qualifiers for many seasons.

Logo Evolution

The old Puneri Paltan logo had a Dhal (shield) and two swords behind it. An illustration of a figured lion’s head is present inside the shield and the upper part of the typeface. There is a Chandrakor symbol on the ‘i’ of the word ‘puneri‘. Logo colors are orange and silver.

New logo introduced in season VII. The new logo has an illustration of a Lion’s Head on the front and this is the main character in this new logo. The lion has a white Chandrakor Tilak symbol on its forehead. The new logo use orange, white and black.

The Lion symbol represents aspects such as leadership, royalty, power and strength.

The Journey in Pro Kabaddi League

Season I + II

In these two seasons, Puneri Paltan has shown worse performance than ever, standing in the lowest position on the scoreboard and not being able to participate in the Playoffs stage.

Season III + IV

This is a lot of changes in the team over these two seasons. With new head coach Kasinathan Bhaskaran and captain Manjeet Chhillar at the helm, Puneri turned things around and reached the playoffs in both seasons. This season marked a return to form and warned any opponents that they would be the toughest team in the League.

Season V

This season there has been a change in the game format. Puneri Paltan led by Deepak Niwas Hooda and head coach BC Ramesh showed there strong and advanced to Eliminators Finals and get loss against Patna Pirates in the Major/Minor semifinal.

Season VI + VII

There was an appearance of foreign kabaddi players in these seasons. Players from many countries such as Korea, Thailand, Kenya,… showed that Kabaddi is starting to become famous and join World Sports.

By the way, there must be a quite hard to Puneri Paltan adapt with the new foreign player because they have bad performance and can’t reach the Eliminators stage in these seasons.

Season VIII

Puneri Paltan took back their form this time and reach Eliminator stage. Unfortunately they loss against UP Yoddhas and couldn’t reach the Semi-finals.

Season IX

This is a remarkable season for the Puneri. Led by Fazel Atrachali of Iran, the team showcased their brightest performance, Puneri Paltan was beat many opponents to reach top 2nd in the Points Table, which is Qualified them to reach the semi-final. They kept their Form and won against Tamil Thalaivas and reach the Finals, for the first time ever. Unfortunately again for them, the Puneri Paltan end up with Runners Up as the 4 points lose against Jaipur Pink Panthers in the Finals.

This season showed that Puneri Paltan never gave up on Kabaddi, they may not have been able to become PKL champions but they were never an easy team to beat. Once again, Puneri proved that they are worthy of what fans expected.

Season X

This PKL 2023 for now are still on going. At this point, Puneri Paltan stand at top 3nd with 3 wins and 1 lose. Showing their desire to become champion.
