The most-anticipated cricket tournament of the world, ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was announced to begin on June 2. The International Cricket Council released the schedule of the 29-day marquee event and said that the hosts of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 are the United States and the West Indies.
Who will lead India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2024?
BCCI’s secretary, Jay Shah, announced the presence of the Indian squad in front of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 announcement. He confirmed that Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the India National team in the next ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2024. Jay Shah emphasized how Rohit led the national team in the previous Cricket World Cup in 2023 when Hardik Pandya left the tournament to recover from ankle injuries.
“Rohit Sharma was captained in the past and he has a comeback for the Afghanistan series. So it means we are going to let him do his job the next season, ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024” – Shah said to the media on the sidelines of the ceremony to use the name of former board secretary Niranjan Shah to rename the SCA Stadium. “If Hardik was injured again(?) in the World Cup, who else can we give the captaincy to?” – Shah kept the question about the injury of Hardik in the last ICC World Cup 2023.
“In the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan, India was 22/4, and look how he (Rohit) took our team to 212/4, that answered a lot of questions, right? Rohit has the ability, we won 10 games without a loss in the ODI World Cup 2023. Although we couldn’t win the final, the way they made to it, is incredible.” – Shah added.
Shah addressed in front of many dignitaries including former India Captains and IPL president Arun Dhumal. Besides, there is the current chief selector for ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Rahul Dravid with his team’s support squad and some cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

ICC has already divided 20 teams that participated in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 into 4 groups, it is:
- Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, USA
- Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman
- Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea
- Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal
There are 3 teams that will make their maiden T20 World Cup 2024, they are Uganda, USA and Canada.

The Cricket World Cup 2024 will begin on 02 June, featuring 55 matches across 9 venues including 6 Venues in the West Indies and 3 in USA. West Indies will host the Super Eight and knockout stage. USA and Canada will compete in the opening match, hosted at Grands Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

T20 2024 Cricket World Cup Avenues
10 of the 20 teams participating in the T20 2024 Cricket World Cup will play their first matches in the USA, which have Lauderhill, Dallas and New York as the Avenues host these 16 matches and the Giant clash between India and Pakistan on 9 June will host in the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island.
The rest of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will play in the Caribbean across 6 islands, including Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana for the semi-finals and Kensington Oval in Barbados for the final on June 29.
