Rise of the Pro Kabaddi League

Kabaddi, one of the ancient Indian sport, it has a rich history lasting over 4000 years. Origin in the rural areas of Punjab, Kabaddi was played as a game to entertainment and physical exercise. Over time, the game getting more popular throughout entire India and became a professional sport with many Leagues and Tournaments was created.

The formation of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) in 1973 and its recognition by the Indian Olympic Association in 1980 was an important first step in the development of the sport. Tamil Thalaivas, an professional kabaddi team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Founded in 2017 and made their debut in the same year. Owned by Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Nimmagadda Prasad, actor Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Allu Aravind. After some seasons, the team’s owner change to Magnum Sports Private Limited, the parent company of Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters FC. Actor Kamal Hasan is the brand ambassador of the team in the first time, then Vijay Sethupathi was the next one until now.

Tamil Thalaivas player their home match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. With the capacity of 40,000 people, every kabaddi match played on there was full of thrill, exciting and electrifying.

In Tamil, the word “Thalai” means ‘Head’, so the word ‘Thalaiva’ mean ‘Leader’. In the name of the team, Tamil Thalaivas – ‘Tamil’s Leaders’, showing their strength, determination, desires of the game.

There was many difficulty for the Thalaivas when they must to faced with many famous name such as Puneri Paltan, U Mumba, Patna Pirates, etc. The team that have a great experience in the League when they already play 4 seasons before Tamil Thalaivas was founded.

They consecutive lose and get unlucky matches when they lose with just 1 points.

Season 9

This season is a exploration for them when this is first time they reach the Eliminators Final. Not just that, they keep beat UP Yoddhas in Eliminators and join Semi-finals, where they got 2 point loss against Puneri Paltan.

This season was wake the proud and expectation of their fans, who was support them for the whole time even they couldn’t have good performances.
