Mukesh Kumar ODI Debut

Mukesh Kumar has been called in to replace Mohammed Siraj as the lead pacer in the first ODI against West Indies. This change is due to Siraj’s absence and also be Mukesh Kumar ODI debut. The upcoming India tour of the West Indies in 2023 will consist of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is, scheduled to take place between July 12 and August 13.

“Considering the pitch at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, which is known for its support to fast bowlers, the Indian management may contemplate including him to bolster the Indian pace attack. Mukesh Kumar, who recently made Mukesh Kumar ODI debut in the second Test against West Indies, secured his first international wicket by dismissing Kirk McKenzie for 32 runs in the first innings.”

Mukesh Kumar expresses his joy and gratitude upon achieving his milestone, sharing that when he secured the wicket, Virat Kohli, whom he had admired and idolized, ran up to him and embraced him. This experience transported Mukesh to a surreal world, as it meant a great deal to be embraced by someone he had watched on television and held in high esteem for many years.

During a conversation for BCCI.TV, Mukesh, the junior partner to his senior pace bowling companion, Mohammed Siraj, shared an anecdote about Rohit’s comments on the challenging pitch. Rohit Sharma mentioned that it would require dedicated effort and strategic bowling to secure wickets instead of instant success. He emphasized the importance of setting up the batter through consistent bowling.

Though he was mentally prepared, having already practiced extensively beforehand, it took a while for the news to fully register when he was informed during the team gathering the day before.

“When I found out that I would be participating, I was surprised and completely lost in my thoughts. Regardless of whether I play or not, I am always ready, so I attended the team meeting with the mindset of following my usual routine. However, there was an instinctive feeling deep down that I might have a chance to play.” The player’s mother was filled with emotion, and everyone involved in this journey was delighted.

“So when it’s morning over here, it’s evening in India. So by
evening, when I reached the hotel, I spoke to my mom, that’s a special
feeling that ‘Maa main desh ke liye khel raha hoon’ (Mom, I am playing
for the country). All my relatives and all those who supported me from
the start are happy”
