After Hardik’s injury that made he absence in ICC World Cup 2023, in the next IPL 2024, there is high chance that Mumbai Indians request Hardik Pandya return to the team in place of archer before taking over as captain from Rohit Sharma.

Hardik Panya return to Mumbai Indians could be a captain swap, meaning either Rohit Sharma will play for GT or Jofra Archer could make way for the all-rounder before he becomes the captain of Mumbai Indians in 2025.

It might not be easy for MI to see the return of Rohit as he has led the franchise to five titles.

Hardik started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians and be a part of four title-winning in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He joined Gujarat in 2022 and went on to won the league in first season as their captain. Pandya will also complete the franchise in 2023.

BCCI news about Hardik Panya return

India’s all-rounder star Hardik Pandya return will not be able until at least January next year. BCCI source confirmed the news and by this, there is likely Hardik Pandya return in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Earlier, there were reports that Hardik might be ready to return against Afghanistan when they play three T20I matches at home in mid-January. However, that will not happen as per the developments.

India have a five-match Test series at home against England starting from January 25, lasting until March 7. Since his injury, Hardik is no longer a part of the Indian red team. So, even if he was fit again in February, he had little chance of returning to professional cricket in that series.

Hardik tore his ankle ligaments during the match between India and Bangladesh in the 2023 World Cup last month. Since then, he has missed matches as the Men in Blue had no real sixth bowling option throughout the competition.

More notably, Hardik has captained the Men in Blue in T20Is since 2022 and is expected to lead the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. Now that the all-rounder has suffered another injury, things look bleak, as his availability and workload management become the talk of the town.

Hardik Pandya return to his previous IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2024 could be happen. There are reports that Pandya could join Mumbai in a direct swap with either Rohit Sharma or Jofra Archer. That means Pandya, if the deal goes through, will lead Mumbai while Rohit will captain Gujarat.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will continue to lead Mumbai Indians if Archer moves to Gujarat. The report adds that Hardik Pandya return could take over as captain in 2025. This report comes as a shocking as Rohit is the face of MI.

He joined the homegrown franchise in 2011 and has been with them ever since. Rohit took over as MI’s captain in 2013. He ended their title drought in his first season as captain and the Men in Blue defeated the mighty Chennai Super Kings in final to lift the trophy for the first time.

Rohit-led MI repeated their performance in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Pandya joined MI in 2015 and was part of four IPL title wins. He was released by MI ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Gujarat, one of the two new teams in 2022, snapped up Pandya for Rs 15 crore and appointed him as captain. Pandya fulfilled this role brilliantly and led the new recruits to win the title in their first season. Gujarat reached the final of IPL 2023 where they lost to Chennai Super Kings.

GT has achieved great success under Pandya and it will be difficult to let him go. The same will happen with MI, who bought young Rohit in 2011.

Rohit and Pandya will both in the team if Archer had been traded to GT. Pandya also member of the top international cricket team and Rohit’s vice-captain in World Cup 2023. He captained India in the majority of T20Is since WC 2022.
